What Is Skin Laser Treatment?

Skin laser treatment is a non-invasive procedure that uses controlled light energy to target specific concerns beneath the surface of the skin. Depending on the technology used, laser treatments can break down pigmentation, stimulate collagen production, resurface damaged skin cells, and improve overall tone and texture, all without surgery and with minimal downtime.

At Sharon MediSkin Clinic, we use TGA-approved, medical-grade laser systems across a range of treatments, so you can feel confident that what is being used on your skin has been properly assessed for safety and effectiveness.

PICO LASER

Best for: Pigmentation, melasma, acne scars, skin toning and rejuvenation

Pico Laser is the most advanced laser technology we now offer at Sharon MediSkin Clinic, and it represents a genuine step forward from traditional Q-switched laser treatments.

Unlike older laser systems that rely on heat to break down pigment, Pico Laser fires ultra-short pulses measured in picoseconds, or one trillionth of a second. This creates a photoacoustic effect, meaning pigment is shattered with precision and minimal heat transfer to the surrounding skin. The result is faster clearance of melanin, less downtime, and a significantly lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which makes Pico Laser particularly well-suited to medium and darker skin tones, including Asian skin.

Pico Laser has long been a cornerstone of high-end clinics throughout Seoul and across Asia. At Sharon MediSkin Clinic, we bring that same standard of care to Sydney.

Pico Laser Treatment by Sharon

What Pico Laser Can Treat:?

  • Pico Laser Toning: A gentle full-face treatment for overall skin brightening, pore refinement, and mild pigmentation correction. Popular as a maintenance treatment and for clients who want a luminous, more even complexion without significant downtime.
  • Pigmentation and Melasma Removal: Pico Laser targets excess melanin with precision. It is particularly effective for stubborn pigmentation, sun spots, and melasma that has not responded well to topical treatments or older laser options. Multiple wavelengths can be used to address different pigment depths.
  • Acne Spot Treatment: For clients dealing with active acne marks and post-breakout discolouration, targeted Pico Laser sessions can accelerate clearance of red and brown spots while improving overall skin tone.
  • Acne Scar Treatment: Using fractional Pico Laser settings, we can target the textural damage left behind by acne, encouraging new collagen formation and gradually smoothing the skin’s surface. This is one of the most sought-after uses of Pico Laser technology and typically delivered as a series of sessions for best results.
  • Skin Rejuvenation: Pico Laser stimulates collagen and elastin production throughout the skin, making it a strong choice for clients focused on anti-ageing, skin quality, and overall luminosity, not just a single targeted concern.
  • Sessions and Packages: Most clients see meaningful improvement over a series of 3 to 6 sessions depending on the concern being treated. Single sessions and multi-session packages are available. Contact us for a personalised quote based on your skin goals.
Pricing: For lighter pigmentation, the cost starts at $750 – $950; any additional laser treatment will charge extra $150-$200/treatment

ND Yag – Q-Switched Laser

Best for: Deep pigmentation, skin brightening and uneven tone

The ND YAG Q-Switched Laser is a proven laser technology with a long track record in treating pigmentation, melasma, and general skin tone concerns. It works by delivering precise bursts of energy to break down melanin clusters beneath the skin’s surface, gradually revealing a clearer, more even complexion.

While Pico Laser is now our most advanced option for pigmentation and resurfacing, the Q-Switched ND YAG remains a reliable choice and may be recommended depending on your specific skin concerns and treatment history. Sharon will advise which is right for you after assessing your skin.

Pricing: From $350 – $550

Acne Scar Treatment

Fractional Laser – Erbium (Non-Invasive)

Best for: Acne scarring, rough texture, fine lines and advanced skin resurfacing

Fractional Erbium Laser is our most intensive resurfacing treatment, designed for clients dealing with significant acne scarring, deep textural irregularity, fine lines, or advanced signs of skin ageing. It works by creating controlled micro-channels in the skin, which triggers the body’s natural healing response and stimulates fresh collagen formation from beneath the surface.

The results are progressive and meaningful. Smoother texture, improved scarring, and a noticeably more refined skin surface. Because it works at a deeper level than toning or pigmentation lasers, it is typically recommended as a planned series of treatments rather than a one-off session.

Sharon will assess whether Fractional Erbium or Pico Laser (or a combination of both) is the more appropriate approach for your scarring and skin goals.

Pricing: From $750 – $1500

IPL & JPL Treatments

Best for: Redness, sun damage, freckles and surface pigmentation

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and JPL treatments use broad-spectrum light energy to target surface-level pigmentation, redness, visible capillaries, and general photo-ageing. They are a gentler option compared to laser resurfacing treatments and suit clients who want to address skin tone concerns with minimal downtime.

IPL works particularly well for sun freckles, superficial sun damage, and overall skin tone balancing. JPL is a milder variation suited to more sensitive skin.

Benefits include:

LED Light Therapy

LED Light Therapy

Best for: Recovery, acne, inflammation and collagen support

LED Light Therapy is one of our gentlest treatments and one of the most versatile. Using specific wavelengths of light to stimulate the skin at a cellular level, it supports healing, reduces inflammation, targets acne-causing bacteria, and encourages collagen production — all without any discomfort or downtime.

It is often used as a standalone maintenance treatment or combined with other laser and skin treatments to support recovery and enhance results.

LED Light Therapy can help with:

Capillary Reduction

Best for: Broken capillaries, visible veins and facial redness

Broken or dilated capillaries on the face are a common concern, particularly around the nose and cheeks, and can be difficult to address with skincare alone. Our capillary reduction treatment uses targeted laser or light energy to collapse the visible vessel without damaging the surrounding skin, gradually reducing the appearance of redness and thread veins.

FAQs - Skin Laser Treatment

Both target pigmentation, but they work differently. Q-Switched lasers use nanosecond pulses and rely partly on heat to break down melanin. Pico Laser uses picosecond pulses, one trillionth of a second, which creates a photoacoustic effect. This means pigment is shattered more precisely with significantly less heat and less risk of side effects like post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. For most pigmentation and acne scar concerns, Pico Laser offers a more advanced and gentler result.
Yes, and this is one of Pico Laser’s most important advantages. Because it produces less heat than traditional laser systems, Pico Laser carries a much lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which is a common concern with older laser technologies on medium to darker skin tones including Asian skin. Sharon’s background in Korean skincare means she has extensive experience working with Asian skin types specifically.
It depends on your skin concern. For general toning and mild pigmentation, clients often see good results within 3 to 5 sessions. For acne scarring or more significant pigmentation, a longer series of 5 to 8 sessions may be recommended, spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart. Sharon will give you a realistic expectation during your consultation.
Yes. Pico Laser can be combined with other treatments at the clinic. For example, LED Light Therapy to support recovery after a session, or a course of chemical peels to complement the resurfacing work. Sharon will recommend a plan based on your skin goals.

Yes. We adjust the settings to suit your sensitivity and choose the safest option for your skin type.

Yes. Fractional Erbium laser is one of the most effective treatments for improving acne scarring.
The number of sessions depends on the type of laser treatment and your individual skin goals. Skin rejuvenation or pigmentation treatments typically require 3-6 sessions for optimal results.
Most of our laser treatments require little to no downtime. You may experience slight redness or warmth in the treated area, which usually subsides within a few hours. We’ll guide you on aftercare to help you heal quickly and effectively.

Many clients notice improvement after one session with better results over several treatments.

Avoid heat, exercise, sun exposure and active skin care for twenty four to forty eight hours.
